"The biggest threat to America today is not communism. It's moving America toward a fascist theocracy, and everything that's happened during the Reagan administration is steering us right down that pipe… I really think that. … When you have a government that prefers a certain moral code derived from a certain religion and that moral code turns into legislation to suit one certain religious point of view, and if that code happens to be very, very right wing, almost toward Attila the Hun…“-- Frank Zappa, 1986 In a land that is based on the sole ancient principles of democracy and the idealism of Liberty, it's unthinkable that extremism could touch the shores of that "golden" social experiment that set it apart from its global counterparts. Yet, when one really pays attention and listens to what major players in the Republican party are saying or rather doing--That shakes the 246-year-old institutions of our little Republic to its core. We could argue that we're experiencing the "Fall of Rome" in real-time as the GOP extremists in control of the House in 2022. With the rise of proposed laws and policies that mirror Nazi Germany in 1929 and talking points that are verbatim of Hitler's speeches. (Looking at you, Senator Josh Hawley). Groups like ALEC and Project Blitz use nothing but extremist views to write legislation and indoctrination a "Church" led educational system. We really have to start asking ourselves, "how did we go from being a well-thought-out place of principles of democracy to fighting off the throes of authoritarianism"? That's the question of the hour, isn't it? Let's wade into the deep ocean of factors that brought the US institutions to its knees, as we saw on January 6th, 2021. It's no secret that the US has always had a fetish for Secular Authoritarianism and European feudalism. The first wave came from the Calvinists (Puritans) and the settled colonies -which was nothing short of what a Secular Authoritarian government looks like. From preaching law from the pulpit to the prosecution of folks thought to be the "undesirable" or "inferiors" of the colonies through the Salem witch trials, the enslavement of other human beings, and the starting of the biggest genocides the modern world has ever known. [1] In fact, this secular rule was one of the major contributing factors in the Revolutionary war. This is why the deeply flawed founders established the precedent of "Separation between Church and State" as they felt nobody should have to live under that kind of rule. And why the First Amendment has the "Establishment Clause" and states "Freedom from and of Religion" permanently etched into the US Constitution. In spite of the numerous warnings that the Founders of our nation left about religion mixing into politics, this secular movement still managed to weave itself into the political spectrum over the years. The more prominent examples of the secular influence was the "Monroe doctrine" (also known as Manifest Destiny doctrine), forming the Confederacy itself to the Jim Crow Laws. [2] This unhallowed faction even went so far as to hold a Hitler rally at Madison Square Garden in 1939 with open arms. They even held Hitler Youth summer camps across the United States during the 1930s [3] prior to the US involvement in WWII. In fact, the Nazis were in love with the Confederacy's profane stances, and they model most of their platform after it. [4] It's nothing new in the grand scheme of things when it comes to both American history and the political climate. But the brazen attempts to make it so acceptable are fairly new. This brings us to the modernized version of how it became so bold into the main stage of politics. The passing of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, pushed this ideology back into the darkness like it had been after the Civil War ended. It remained quiet until Barry Goldwater deployed a plan that was referred to as the "Southern Strategy" that broke its silence. This plan was meant to return the resources and influences of the Dixiecrats back into the GOP, and by 1979 rolled around, it reignited an old fire that should have died out by the 21st century. Naturally, both political parties had completely flipped their platforms, and the GOP had done a full circle and reclaimed their Jacksonian Democratic-Republican platform of "Guns, God, and Country". It wasn't until the Reagan administration did this philosophy become a weapon and a well-organized machine with a limited reach despite having a few channels like the TBN and the 700 Club on hand. It wasn't until 1995 when the internet was making its way into millions of American homes did their message really explode. The internet opened up a whole new frontier with a much larger audience to spread their message to. Of course, they also preyed on cable and satellite broadcasting channels with a bit bigger reach than the internet, because cable and satellite were more accessible than the internet in the mid-90s. This led to the creation of a well-oiled propaganda machine known as Fox News. With the power of the internet and t.v.- They created a whole new movement with the "Tea Party" with the Libertarians. Now the "Tea party" became extremely vocal with the same tripe of rhetoric that was once that the Confederacy and Nazis both used to incite folks. This, of course, drew in their "celebrity" ring leader Donald Trump into the fold back in 2000. In fact, Trump's first presidential run was back in 2000 under the same platform but didn't get very far as the moderates in GOP were able to keep a muzzle on a monster that they created. However, that monster was let off its leash in the name of MAGA and in turn, opened up a floodgate to the crisis that the very fabric of our institution--An autocratic Regime with Authoritarian tendencies. Frank Zappa caught to their game, back when it was revving up back in the 80s, and called it out as often as he could. This is what we all should be doing instead of getting sidetracked by the distracting politics that the GOP keeps throwing at us. Because while they're trying to get folks worked up about an "Evil Balloon", the GOP's unhallow fraction is trying to rewrite the constitution and definition of "Freedom" by using the Supreme Court. [5] Remember that the "founders" of the nation they're referring to aren't the same dudes that started the Revolutionary war in the name of Liberty. They're referring to the original colonists of the 1630s. So, Frank Zappa was right. Communism (China) should be and is our last concern right now. As the wolves that would like to do us harm are not oceans away.. But right here at home. As always take care and be good to one another, Much love and peace out, Jojo Citations: 1.https://www.archives.gov/milestone-documents/monroe-doctrine#:~:text=The%20Monroe%20Doctrine%20is%20the,further%20colonization%20or%20puppet%20monarchs.
