“One of the most important things you can do on this earth is to let people know they are not alone." ― Shannon L. Alder We live in a world that requires us to stay within our own little spheres of constant "grind and hustling". Even here in the Ozarks, that sphere of life is always a persistent way of life, and it leaves little time to look past ourselves to see what's going on in the world. Between full-time jobs and raising families, there's not enough time in the day to notice how apathetic we as a society have become. With mass apathy running amuck on a daily basis, we are constantly looking for a hero or something to save us. Granted, we tend to look for wisdom from our political leaders or someone with a massive large public platform to carry that torch of "goodwill" towards others to inspire others to do the same thing. But the reality, it doesn't always take, and we continue the same worn-out cycle. This leaves the question of if folks with massive public presences and politics can't achieve such a feat--What hope does that leave for the rest of us? Doesn't seem like a lot huh? I mean with our political climate in chaos, somebody doing something horrible to someone else, and school shootings in a constant news cycle. It doesn't help our psyche or how we see the world. For example, the school shooting in St. Louis, this morning shook most folks in the state. Despite having unapproachable news in today's news cycle, it reminds us that there is also good in the world--although it's not always considered "newsworthy", and we too can be a part of it. We do, in fact, we do have the power to combat the aloofness of indifference. It's super simple too. All we have to do is start reaching out to others to let them know that they're not alone in their struggles. All it takes is one simple gesture or a kind word to change the life of someone going through the "meat grinder". Be it someone you know personally or a complete stranger on the internet. Kindness has no set standard of where who or what you can apply it to, and we never know when it might be the kind of light someone needs just to get through a dark day. What I'm saying is all you have to do is to "show up" for someone when you see them struggling. It's that not that hard of a thing to do and it's always the right thing to do for folks. One thing is for sure we need more of it in this old world. Now, if you're reading this and going through some things... Please know that it's okay not to be okay. And if you have made it today, I'm proud of you! That takes an immeasurable amount of strength to get up each day and hope for the best when the world feels despairing. Also, remember to be kind to yourself when those personal demons flare up and cause lots of discomforts. Sure, it's easier said than done, but when you're kind to yourself those demons no longer have power over you. I'm well aware all of these tidbits sound very cliché, but it doesn't make them any less true. Finding light in the dark can be trying and difficult at times, but there are people like me (there's a ton of us actually) that will always leave a light on for you to see. So don't ever think you'll be a bother or a burden if you reach out to someone, because the truth is you're not. You are human and not expendable, because whether you see it, you too, make the world a little better of a place. And at the end of the day, that's all that matters. So if you don't feel that you're doing anything important or saving the world as Batman would. Remember the smallest act of kindness is a revolutionary act in this day and age and doesn't go unnoticed. In fact, that is probably one of the most important things you could ever do in life because it does make a difference. Whether you need to be kinder to yourself or to a stranger. Step up, show, and be kind, because we're all in this together. Much love and peace out, Jojo
Do a revolutionary act of Kindness.
